Writing is Thinking: Teaching Interdisciplinary Writing in the Arts and Humanities

Facilitator: Dr. Hannah Feldman, History of Art
Convener: Rhea Swain, CETLI Graduate Fellow, History of Art

This pedagogy workshop will deeply engage the subject of writing across the humanities. Led by Professor Hannah Feldman, the Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Associate Professor of Contemporary Art in the History of Art department, participants in the workshop will discuss how to prepare students to write compelling, argumentative final research papers and other kinds of writing assignments. We will explore how to help students develop their individual writing voices by becoming more careful and engaged readers, critical thinkers, and presenters. In addition to considering the ideal timelines, methods, and processes for structuring writing assignments, this workshop will address the generative challenges of teaching students how to write about contemporary art, history, literature, and politics.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the History of Art department, and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
