The Course Design Institute (CDI) provides faculty with an opportunity to focus on evidence-based practices in course design through a three-day set of interactive workshops.
CDI is ideal for faculty who are designing a new course, looking to revise an existing one, or are generally curious about how to maximize student learning and engagement.
Each day focuses on a different aspect of course design:
- Day 1: Course Learning Goals - What skills and ways of thinking should students be able to do by the end of the course?
- Day 2: Assessment & Grading - How can faculty design assessments that are challenging, provide equal opportunities for learning, and align with course goals?
- Day 3: In-Class Activities -What types of in-class activities engage students and motivate them to learn?
Participants leave CDI with robust plans for a syllabus, assessments, and classroom activities, as well as a new foundation in course design that can be applied to future courses.
Each day will include formal and informal discussions, focused individual work time, and a complimentary lunch.
To learn more about CDI, read about how previous participants redesigned existing courses, launched new ones, and built community with their peers across campus.
The 2026 Institute will take place May 19 - May 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
