This calendar applies to most undergraduate classes. Other schools at Penn may have their own schedules. For additional context, you may also consult the Penn Academic Calendar. If you have questions about your teaching semester, check with your school's registrar.

This list also includes the dates where Penn's policy on religious holidays prohibits exams and assigned work. The University Chaplain’s Office secular and religious holidays provides a fuller list. Be open to students requesting flexibility around these days and consider adding a related policy statement to your syllabus.

Finally, contact your departmental administrator should you need rooms for mid-term or final exams.

Fall 2025

Week 1: August 26 - August 29

  • No Monday classes this week.
  • Tuesday, August 26 – classes begin.

Week 2: September 1 - 5

  •  Monday, September 1 – no class for Labor Day.

Week 3: September 8 - 12

  • Tuesday, September 9 – Course selection period ends. (Students can add and drop classes freely until then.)

 Week 4: September 15 - 19

Week 5: September 22 - 26 

  • Monday, September 22 (after sundown) through Wednesday, September 24 – Rosh Hashanah; no graded work due and expect students to miss class for the holiday. 
  • You may want to give students some graded work later this week, so you have time to return the grades and students have time to talk with their advisers about the drop deadline (October 6).

Week 6: September 29 - October 3

  • Wednesday, October 1 (after sundown) through Thursday, October 2 (sunset) – Yom Kippur; no graded work due and expect students to miss class for the holiday.

Week 7: October 6 -10

  • Monday, October 6 – the last day students can drop a class without penalty. 
  • Thursday, October 9 and Friday, October 10 – no classes for Fall Break.

Week 8: October 13 – 17

Week 9: October 20 – 24

  • Friday, October 24 – the last day students can request to take a class pass/fail.

Week 10: October 27 – 31 

  • Monday, October 27 – advanced registration for spring 2026 begins (if you are teaching a spring course, post information, a draft syllabus or a prospectus to Courses@Penn by October 27).

Week 11: November 3 – 7

  • Monday, November 3 – the last day a student can withdraw from a course (they get a W on their transcript but no grade).
  • Tuesday, November 4 – Election Day; no graded work due and expect students to be absent.

Week 12: November 10 - 14

Week 13: November 17 - 21

Week 14: November 24 – 28

  • Tuesday, November 25 – Thursday classes meet.
  • Wednesday, November 26 – Friday classes meet.
  • Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 – no classes for Thanksgiving Break.

Week 15: December 1 – 5

  • Last full week of classes (no exams this week).

Week 16: December 8 – 12

  • Monday, December 8 – the last day of classes (no exams this day).

READING DAYS:  Tuesday, December 9 – Wednesday, December 10 (no exams on these days).

FINAL EXAMS:  Thursday, December 11 – Thursday, December 18.

GRADES DUE: January 5, 5:00 p.m.

Spring 2026

Week 1: January 14 - 16

  • Wednesday, January 14 – Monday classes meet (first day of class). The rest of the week meets as expected (Thursday classes on Thursday, January 15 and Friday classes on Friday, January 16).

Week 2: January 19 - 23

  • Monday, January 19 – no class for MLK

Week 3: January 26 - 30

  • Tuesday, January 27 – course selection period (Students can add and drop classes freely until then.)

Week 4: February 2 - 6 

Week 5: February 9 - 13

  • You may want to give students some graded work due by this week, so you have time to return the grades and students have time to talk with their advisers about the drop deadline (February 23).

Week 6: February 16 – 20

Week 7: February 23 - 27

  • Monday, February 23 – the last day students can drop a class without

Week 8: March 2 - 6

Week 9: March 9 - 13 Spring Break

  • No classes this week

Week 10: March 16 - 20

Week 11: March 23 - 27

  • Monday, March 23 – the last day students can request to take a class pass/fail.

  • Monday, March 23 – Advanced Registration for summer and fall 2026 begins. (If you are teaching a summer or fall course, post information, a draft syllabus, or a prospectus to Courses@Penn by March )

Week 12: March 30 - April 3

  • Monday, March 30 – the last day a student can withdraw from a course (they get a W on their transcript but no grade).

  • Wednesday, April 1 - Friday, April 3 (at sundown) – Passover; no assigned work due (the first two nights of Passover are April 1, sundown through April 3, sundown).

  • Friday, April 3 – Good Friday; no assigned work due and expect students to miss class for the holiday.

Week 13: April 6 – 10

Week 14: April 13 - 17

Week 15: April 20 - 24

  • Last full week of classes (no exams this week).

Week 16: April 27 - May 1

  • Wednesday, April 29 – the last day of classes (no exams this week).

READING DAYS: Thursday, April 30 – Friday, May 1. (No classes or required class activities may be held during the reading period.)

FINAL EXAMS: Monday, May 4 – Tuesday, May 12.

GRADES DUE: Thursday, May 14, noon.
