Course Roster, Classroom and Calendar Info

This calendar applies to most undergraduate classes. Other schools at Penn may have their own schedules. For additional context, you may also consult the Penn Academic Calendar. If you have questions about your teaching semester, check with your school's registrar.

This list also includes the dates where Penn's policy on religious holidays prohibits exams and assigned work. The University Chaplain’s Office provides the annual secular and religious holidays, which is a fuller list. Be open to students requesting flexibility around these days and consider adding a related policy statement to your syllabus.

Finally, contact your departmental administrator should you need rooms for mid-term or final exams.

Fall 2026

Week 1: August 24 - August 28

  • No Monday classes this week.
  • Tuesday, August 25 – classes begin.

Week 2: August 31 - September 4

Week 3: September 7 - 11

  • Monday, September 7 – no class for Labor Day.
  • Tuesday, September 8 – Course selection period ends. (Students can add and drop classes freely until then.)
  • Friday, September 11 (after sundown) through Sunday, September 13 – Rosh Hashanah; no graded work due and expect students to miss class for the holiday. 

Week 4: September 14 - 18

Week 5: September 21 - 25 

  • Sunday, September 20 (after sundown) through Monday, September 21 (sunset) – Yom Kippur; no graded work due and expect students to miss class for the holiday. 
  • You may want to give students some graded work later this week, so you have time to return the grades and students have time to talk with their advisers about the drop deadline (October 5).

Week 6: September 28 - October 2

  • Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2 – no classes for Fall Break.

Week 7: October 5 - 9

  • Monday, October 5 – the last day students can drop a class without penalty. 

Week 8: October 12 - 16

Week 9: October 19 - 23

  • Friday, October 23 – the last day students can request to take a class pass/fail.

Week 10: October 26 - 30

  • Monday, October 26 – advanced registration for spring 2027 begins (if you are teaching a spring course, post information, a draft syllabus or a prospectus to Courses@Penn by October 26).

Week 11: November 2 - 6

  • Monday, November 2 – the last day a student can withdraw from a course (they get a W on their transcript but no grade).
  • Tuesday, November 3 – Election Day; no graded work due and expect students to be absent.

Week 12: November 9 - 13

Week 13: November 16 - 20

Week 14: November 23 - 27

  • Tuesday, November 24 – Thursday classes meet.
  • Wednesday, November 25 – Friday classes meet.
  • Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 – no classes for Thanksgiving Break.

Week 15: November 30 - December 4

  • Last full week of classes (no exams this week).

Week 16: December 7 - 11

  • Monday, December 7 – the last day of classes (no exams this day).

READING DAYS:  Tuesday, December 8 – Wednesday, December 9 (no exams on these days). 

FINAL EXAMS:  Thursday, December 10 – Thursday, December 17.

GRADES DUE: Monday, January 4, 5:00 p.m.

Spring 2027

Week 1: January 18 - 22

  • Monday, January 18 – no class for MLK Day.
  • Wednesday, January 20 – Monday classes meet (first day of class). The rest of the week meets as expected (Thursday classes on Thursday, January 21 and Friday classes on Friday, January 22).

Week 2: January 25 - 29

Week 3: February 1 - 5

  • Tuesday, February 2 – course selection period ends. (Students can add and drop classes freely until then.)

Week 4: February 8 - 12

Week 5: February 15 - 19

  • You may want to give students some graded work due by this week, so you have time to return the grades and students have time to talk with their advisers about the drop deadline (March 1).

Week 6: February 22 - 26

Week 7: March 1 - 5

  • Monday, March 1 – the last day students can drop a class without penalty.

Week 8: March 8 - 12 Spring Break

  • Spring Break. No classes this week.

Week 9: March 15 - March 19

Week 10: March 22 - 26

  • Friday, March 26 – Good Friday; no assigned work due and expect students to miss class for the holiday.

Week 11: March 29 - April 2

  • Monday, March 29 – the last day students can request to take a class pass/fail.
  • Monday, March 29 – Advanced Registration for summer and fall 2027 begins. (If you are teaching a summer or fall course, post information, a draft syllabus, or a prospectus to Courses@Penn by March 29.)

 Week 12: April 5 - April 9

  • Monday, April 5 – the last day a student can withdraw from a course (they get a W on their transcript but no grade).

Week 13: April 12 - 16

Week 14: April 19 - 23

  • Wednesday April 21– Passover begins at sundown.  No exams or assigned work may be required from the evening of April 21 through April 23.

Week 15: April 26 - 30

  • Last full week of classes (no exams this week).

Week 16: May 3 - May 7

  • Tuesday, May 4 – the last day of classes (no exams this week).

READING DAYS: Wednesday, May 5 – Thursday, May 6. (No classes or required class activities may be held during the reading period.)

FINAL EXAMS: Friday, May 7 – Monday, May 17.

GRADES DUE: Thursday, May 20, noon.
