Introduction to Teaching at Penn

Introduction to Teaching at Penn is a program designed to support instructors who are teaching their first Penn classes. Appropriate for both experienced and novice teachers, the program orients new instructors to some of the specifics related to teaching at Penn—including resources, policies, and relevant support offices— as well as how to design their classes to facilitate student learning.

This program includes:

  • One-on-one summer consultations with CETLI staff.
  • A selection of focused Zoom workshops that prepare new instructors to teach courses that support students through their own design choices and through an understanding of Penn’s instructional resources.
  • An opportunity to observe experienced instructors teaching and reflect on what you see.
  • In-person meetings during the semester with other instructors in their first few years of teaching at Penn. This is an opportunity to build community with peers and get support for your teaching needs during your first semester teaching at Penn.

New instructors may participate in all of these offerings or attend only the events that best serve their needs.
