Some Thoughts on Teaching (Syntactic) Argumentation

Facilitator: Dr. Matthew Hewett, Linguistics
Convener: Quynh-Giang Dang, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Linguistics

Teaching students how to deconstruct (hypothetico-)deductive arguments and compose their own is a key component of instruction in the sciences. In this workshop, I’ll lay out some methods for doing this that I’ve had success with in teaching syntax, and we’ll discuss how you might adapt the methods for other (sub)fields.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Linguistics department, and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
