Teaching to Different Levels of Students

Facilitator: Tony Liu, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Computer & Information Science

Tailoring our course and instruction appropriately for different student experience levels presents both opportunities and challenges. In particular, there may be a broad distribution of student needs: some might find the material difficult and need additional support, while others might find the material easy and want to be further challenged. Participants in this workshop will discuss considerations needed when teaching to different levels of students, such as setting prerequisites, aligning expectations with student goals, and providing more variety in course content and assessments. We will also reflect on the remote learning experience and how to adapt these considerations in virtual settings.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
