Teaching Outside Penn: What to Expect and How to Prepare

Facilitator: Drs. Sarah Xia Yu, DeSales University; Chelsea Chamberlain, Wilkes University
Convener: Mengliu Cheng, CETLI Fellow, History

This virtual session features two History alums who will share their experiences teaching at non-Penn institutions. We will discuss the opportunities, challenges, and lessons learned from teaching in a different context. We will also discuss how to position yourself on the job market, and what you can do as a TA to prepare for future teaching roles. The workshop will also address common challenges in grad schools-comps, grants, the ABD stage, etc. Bring your questions and join an open conversation with our alums!

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the History department, and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
