Working With Struggling Students
Facilitator: Gulzhan Aldan, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics
Struggling with new material is a normal part of learning. But in any classroom, especially a large one where students arrive with different backgrounds and learning speeds, some students will struggle more than others. This workshop is about how TAs can support those students. Participants will discuss how to recognize when a student is struggling, reach out while respecting their boundaries, and work with students on a practical plan to get back on track. Whether you are about to start TAing or already have experience, this is a chance to learn practical approaches, share what has worked, and reflect on how you got through the classes you once found difficult.
