Implementing a Multimodal Practice in Your Classroom
Facilitator: Taylor Smith, CETLI Fellow, Communication
Multimodal work seeks to present information and an argument in modes beyond the written word, encouraging practitioners to consider audio, video, and interactive design as equally rigorous accompaniments or alternatives. As our students seek to understand our dynamic media landscape, the process of creating their own media deepens their ability to critically analyze media texts as they wrestle with form, composition, authorial intent, audience, and dissemination. In this workshop, we will discuss the benefits of leveraging multimodal work as instructors, consider syllabus and assignment construction in our classrooms, and brainstorm ways to create and evaluate these assignments.
