In this workshop, we will begin by discussing what a philosophy of teaching statement is and is not, both speaking generally and by reading a selection of anonymized statements from a range of disciplines. Since a statement is increasingly required of ABD students and recent graduates on the job market, we will spend time workshopping statements provided by participants, providing peer review and strategies for successfully articulating a teaching philosophy (even when teaching experience in the classroom has been minimal). All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Music department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
