The Associated Press Features Oral Exam Teaching Innovations at Penn

In a recent article by the Associated PressEmily Hammer of Middle Eastern Languages & Cultures and CETLI’s Executive Director, Bruce Lenthall weigh in on the increasing practice of using oral exams to support student learning and discourage AI use that might hinder student learning. In the article, Hammer details the purpose behind combining an oral exam with a written assignment. The article cites Penn as “one of a small but growing number of universities that have started running faculty workshops on oral exams.”
