As a part of a graduate student’s training, it is common to be required or at least be provided a voluntary opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant (TA) or instructor for courses with subject matters that are closely tied to the student’s department or research. For many students, their first experience as TA/instructor will be in graduate school. Even for some students who have previously been TAs or instructors, they may be assigned to courses where the academic backgrounds of the students are vastly different from those with whom they have worked in the past. In this workshop, we will discuss general strategies for being a TA/instructor, as well as how to leverage this responsibility with the other commitments that students commonly encounter as graduate students.
All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Biostatistics department and so may be most useful to students in related fields.Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
