Encouraging Open Inquiry in the Classroom

Facilitator: Drs. Sigal R. Ben-Porath, Graduate School of Education & Benjamin Nathans, History

How can instructors create a classroom where students can investigate controversial topics in a way that is free and open? How do instructors make sure students can consider all sides of an argument and multiple perspectives? In this discussion, Sigal Ben-Porath from GSE and Ben Nathans from History will begin by talking about their experiences and perspectives on open inquiry as a way to begin a wider conversation on the challenges and opportunities in teaching classes where students can give voice to and listen to varied views.
