Teaching Introductory Programming

Facilitator: Dr. Steve Zdancewic, Schlein Family President's Distinguished Professor and Associate Chair, Computer & Information Science
Convener: Jessica Shi, CETLI Fellow, Computer & Information Science

In this workshop, we will discuss how to effectively teach students introductory programming, through the lens of Prof. Steve Zdancewic’s experiences with CIS 1200 (Programming Languages and Techniques). Topics we examine may include 1200’s choice to teach two programming languages, OCaml and Java; considerations when designing programming projects; and strategies for managing a large course — and course staff.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Computer & Information Science department, and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
