Teaching Effective Technical Writing: A Case Study

Facilitator: Professor Robert W. Carpick, and Dr. Parker LaMascus, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics
Convener: Shafagh Keyvanian, CETLI Fellow, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics

Writing skills are frequently overlooked in STEM education, yet effective written communication is crucial for success in science and engineering. In this workshop, we will share, analyze, and discuss a case study from an upper-level/graduate STEM course that blends technical coursework with a writing-based project, with the goal of building student confidence and skill in technical communication, while also exposing students to the peer-review process of academic publishing.

Lunch will be provided.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics department, and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
