Student projects can challenge students to explore their interests while teaching and assessing students’ thinking in the field and academic skills. In online courses, such projects may be even more relevant – if challenging – as faculty look for authentic forms of assessment to replace proctored exams. In this session, Ameena Gaffar-Kucher of Education and Heather Sharkey of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations will discuss ways that they have designed projects, how they have broken them into smaller segments to help students develop through the semester, and how they have evaluated student work.
