Like it or not, as college-level instructors, we are situated at the front lines of the battle between “academia” and “the real world.” At this workshop, we will discuss how to make it clear to students why the social and historical sciences matter. We will brainstorm strategies for dealing with the highly pre-professional climate at Penn and talk through methods for demonstrating how students can apply what they learn in class to non-academic settings, something that is essential to Penn’s new LPS curriculum.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Art & Archaeology of the Mediterranean World and Anthropology departments and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
