In this workshop, we discuss the practice of live coding — where the instructor writes code in real-time in front of students — through the lens of senior lecturer Harry Smith’s experiences with integrating this technique into his classes. Questions we examine may include: What are the benefits and risks of live coding? What kinds of activities are better or worse suited to live coding? How can instructors make their live coding engaging and easy to follow?
All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Computer & Information Science department, and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
