Join political and education philosopher Dr. Sigal Ben-Porath for an interactive workshop on teaching in a time of political partisanship, “cancel culture,” and conflicting interpretations of free speech. Drawing from her experience and forthcoming book, Cancel Wars: How Universities Can Foster Free Speech, Promote Inclusion, and Renew Democracy, Dr. Ben-Porath will share pedagogical tools to depolarize classroom discussion, foster inclusive dialogue, and respond to student sharing that is misinformed or discriminatory. Participants will also problem-solve with Dr. Ben-Porath related issues they have encountered as instructors, or ones they want to prepare for.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Graduate School of Education and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
