Public speaking is frequently cited as one of the most common fears in the world, and one of the most difficult to manage. Even some of the most experienced speakers and teachers report having pre-talk jitters and pre-teaching nightmares. In this session, we will explore strategies for managing physical symptoms of nervousness or anxiety while teaching, for calming anxious thoughts before and during class, and for building confidence around public speaking and teaching. We will explore practical tools for lesson planning, responding to difficult or “hostile” questions, and managing the classroom dynamic.
All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Marketing department, and so may be most useful to students in related fields.
