Embracing Mistakes: Supporting Struggling Students in Chemistry

Facilitator: Dr. Jeffrey D. Winkler, Chemistry
Convener: Cameron Berlin, CETLI Fellow, Chemistry

In this workshop, we will explore strategies for normalizing struggle and mistake-making as essential parts of the learning process. Participants will learn how to create supportive classroom environments that encourage a growth mindset, reduce fear of failure, and promote deeper conceptual understanding. Practical approaches for responding errors in a way that fosters growth and resilience will also be discussed.

All graduate students are welcome. This event grows out of concerns in the Chemistry department, and so may be most useful to students in related fields.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
