Beyond the Term Paper: Thinking Creatively About Assignments

Facilitator: Anastasia Gracheva, CETLI Graduate Fellow, Management; and Rhea Swain, CETLI Graduate Fellow, History of Art

The term paper’s efficacy for evaluating students’ learning has been challenged by the current state of higher education, particularly with the greater use of generative AI. In this workshop, participants will explore innovative ways to create challenging and engaging assignments to help students develop necessary research, writing, critical thinking, and public speaking skills. Participants will brainstorm and discuss potential assignment formats, and reflect on how to strategically and creatively mobilize their own course materials and syllabi to support student learning.

Counts toward the CETLI Teaching Certificate.
